Employee Retention Through Training

Cannabis is facing an array of external challenges such as price compression in the market and high competition. These two challenges alone would be enough to force an industry contraction. There’s more at work ,though – there’s also a myriad of internal challenges. Turnover continues to be one of the most serious, and out paces the issue in other industries.

In a report on the cannabis industry by analytics company Headset explored retail cannabis trends and found that nearly 60% of entry-level employees leave within their first two months on the job. It’s well known what sort of impact turnover can have, but in a regulation-heavy industry such as cannabis, it can be devastating. According to Gallup, it can cost between 50 – 200% of an employee’s salary to replace them. In an industry that is striving to make every dime count, turnover needs to be addressed.

The losses aren’t just monetary. Turnover can create loss of ‘tribal knowledge’ around the production of products or even product lines. This knowledge, rarely written, leaves with employees. Its loss can take precious time to recover – if it’s recoverable at all. In a regulation-heavy environment, this can be devastating, even resulting in loss of license.

In the cannabis retail space, training is cited as one of the big issues for morale and turnover. And while there are a lot of factors causing the high turnover in the cannabis industry, with our solutions, training doesn’t have to be one of them.

These activities are key to the success of your equipment, and the CQV activities are the foundational activities for ongoing training and auditing programs.

CQV activities include Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, and Performance Qualification (IQ, OQ, and PQ). These steps are a way to demonstrate that processes are sound and consistent, and will produce a product that conforms to the most exacting standards.
